After the summer break, it’s time to put the dryer back on. Before starting the first cycle, however, it only takes a few minutes to freshen it up and prepare it for the new season.
Why do this? Because lint, fabric fibers, and dust may have accumulated , especially in the filter, which can impede proper airflow and affect drying times and performance. There’s no need for complicated cleaning, just 5 simple steps:
1. Clean the filter
This is the first thing to check:
- remove the filter;
- remove any remaining lint and fibers with a soft brush. Remember to do this before washing the filter, otherwise these residues will be difficult to remove;
- clean the filter compartment, removing any residue with a vacuum cleaner.
Important: If you wash the filter, make sure it’s completely dry before putting it back in. And once you’re back to using your dryer regularly, remember to clean the filter after each cycle .

2. Check the condenser or heat exchanger
Depending on the model, your dryer may have a condenser or heat exchanger (newer models) that require periodic maintenance. It’s important to check for dust or dirt , which should be gently removed with a soft brush or vacuum cleaner.
Before cleaning, always check your model’s manual : in condenser dryers, the condenser may be removable, while in heat pump dryers, it may be integrated and inaccessible for DIY cleaning. Never force components or parts that are not designed to be removed.
3. Clean the drum
Simply wipe the inside walls with a soft, slightly damp cloth . You can do the same with the porthole, avoiding abrasive products.
Then leave the door open for a few minutes, so that the inside is thoroughly dry before first use.
4. Don’t forget the gasket
Check the seal around the porthole : it may collect fluff, hair or small debris.
Wipe the entire surface with a damp cloth, especially in the creases, and gently remove anything you find.
5. Check the water tank
If your dryer collects water in a tank, empty and clean it before using it again.
Before the first cycle, also check that it is correctly inserted. If your model is connected directly to the drain, simply check that the connection is intact and that the hose is not kinked.
