When it’s cold outside, there is nothing better than getting back home and into a long, hot shower. But how can you save water under the shower?
Showers are often a relaxing moment, to rejuvenate and gain some mental balance back. This translates into long and water-consuming showers.
Is there a way to give up our bad habits and adopt new, environmentally sustainable ones? How can you save water at home while taking a shower, without giving up comfort and home well-being?
How to save water in the shower: green tips
Taking a shower, instead of a bath, is already a green choice, if you think that a shower consumes one third of the water you would waste by taking a bath, which is estimated between 80 and 200 litres!
We consume almost 5 litres of water, every minute. This is why, on average, a shower shouldn’t last more than 5 minutes, for a total of 30 litres at most.
Apart from turning off the water tap while lathering, another useful gesture could be keeping a bucket in the shower and collecting the water wasted while you wait for it to warm up. This water can be used to water your plants or for household chores.
Also, watch out for dripping taps, that can make you waste up to 5000 litres per year. This is why having the right accessories is so important!
How to save water: shower accessories
Did you know that there are showers that can mix air with water, to provide an equally strong jet, with much less expensive bills, without reducing your number of showers?
Low-flow diffusers are the solution. Do a test: take a 1 litre milk carton and measure how many seconds you shower takes to fill it up. If it takes less than 10 seconds, your shower is making you waste too much water.
Jet-breakers and flow regulators can help you waste less water, as well as the type of water heater you use.
How to save water in the shower thanks to your water heater
Our heat pump water heater has been designed with a family energy savings in mind. Differently from standard water heaters, it provides hot water thanks to the heat in the air, with savings in the electricity bill. To understand its operation, just think about how a refrigerator works: it transfers the heat inside it to the surrounding environment. The water heater reverses the cycle, by taking heat from the air and transferring it to the water.
No more cold showers! With the hOn app, you can check if the hot water is available and, by setting your favourite temperature, how many showers you can take. The special icon shows you how many litres of hot water are available: if the icon is green, it means you have more than 20 litres at your disposal!
Plan your water heater activities in advance and set the Eco mode to always have hot water available and enjoy your sustainable shower!
